Experience an unforgettable 2-day birding journey in the heart of Cambodia’s Northern Plains. Based at Kriel Lodge in Tmat Paeuy Community Protected Area, this immersive trip takes you into one of Southeast Asia’s most important conservation landscapes, home to the critically endangered Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis.


Guided by experienced Sam Veasna Conservation Tours English Speaking Guide and local experts, explore the unique dry dipterocarp forests and seasonal wetlands in search of rare and iconic bird species. With strong community-led conservation efforts in place, sightings are highly successful, offering a rare opportunity to observe these remarkable birds in their natural habitat.


Beyond the ibis, Tmat Paeuy supports an exceptional diversity of birdlife, including over 16 species of woodpeckers and a variety of dry forest specialists. Combined with a comfortable stay at Kriel Lodge and the option to visit the remote Koh Ker temple, this short yet rewarding experience is perfect for birders and nature enthusiasts seeking both wildlife and cultural discovery.

      • The tour price includes 1 night accommodation at Kriel Lodge in a Standard Room (based on double occupancy for 2 guests).
    • Guide Services: A dedicated English-speaking guide from Sam Veasna Conservation Tours  will accompany you throughout the trip.
    • Transport: All transportation during the tour, including travel by G oyun to access all birding sites in Tmat Paeuy.
    • Refreshments: Snacks & Drinking water will be provided throughout the trip.
    • Meals: All meals are included.
    • Community Contribution Fund – Giant Ibis Conservation: This fee directly supports community-led conservation efforts that protect the critically endangered Giant Ibis and its habitat in the Northern Plains of Cambodia.
    • Community Conservation Fund: for certain excursions
    • Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary Entry Fee (Foreign Visitors): Required conservation and park entry fee for foreign visitors to Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary.

        • Arrival & Transport:
          Transportation to and from Kriel Lodge is not included. Guests must arrange their own transfer to Tmat Paeuy.
        • Check-in & Check-out:

        • Early Starts:
          Birding activities begin early (from 4:30 AM) to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities.
        • Activity Level:
          This tour involves light to moderate walking in natural environments, including uneven forest terrain and open landscapes.

          Mobile signal and internet access are limited due to the remote location.
        • Weather & Conditions:
          The experience operates in a natural environment where weather and field conditions may vary and can affect daily activities.

        What to bring
          • Passport for check-in

          Essential Gear for the Safari & Location:

          • Binoculars: Crucial for birding—the most important item!
          • Headlamp/Flashlight: Essential, we are remote and the odd power cut may occur. Its also useful for night spotting.
          • Insect Repellent: Bring your own or purchase some from our supply of Kambio Nature organic repellent.
          • Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, long light clothing is also recommended. In the cool season from November to January, bring a lightweight jacket or body warmer
          • Reusable Water Bottle: We encourage sustainability; refills are available at the lodge.

          Camera: With extra batteries or a power bank for charging on the move.

          Logistical & Financial:

          • Cash (USD or Riel): There are no ATMs in the surrounding area, we do have a QR code for accepting transfers, but it is advisable to carry USD or Khmer RIel for food and drinks, and paying tips/local fees.

          Personal Medications: Any prescription or over-the-counter medications you may need.
