Northern Plains Giant Ibis Birding Tour –2 Days / 1 Night

Join us on a 2-day, 1-night birding adventure into Cambodia’s Northern Plains. Departing from Preah Vihear City, the journey takes you to Tmat Boey, one of the last strongholds of the critically endangered Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis. Guided by experienced bird guides, explore the dry forest landscape while searching for these rare species and many other dry forest birds.

Please note that sightings of these rare birds cannot be guaranteed within a short timeframe. Guests wishing to increase their chances may consider the 3 Days / 2 Nights option, which allows more time for birding in the area.

What's included?

    Guide Services
    A dedicated guide will accompany you throughout the trip.

    Transport
    All transportation during the tour on Goyun, including transfers from Preah Vihear City to Kriel lodge and Drop off.

    Drinking water will be provided throughout the trip.

    Breakfast and lunch are included.

    Community Contribution Fund – Giant Ibis Conservation
    This fee directly supports community-led conservation efforts that protect the critically endangered Giant Ibis and its habitat in the Northern Plains of Cambodia.

    Exclusions
      • Accommodation The tour price includes 1 night accommodation at Kriel Lodge in a Standard Room (based on double occupancy for 2 guests).
        • If you have not yet booked your accommodation, please add it during checkout.
      • Laundry service- depending on the length of your stay we may be able to assist
      • Tips and gratuities- please see our tipping policy for guidance
      • Community Conservation Fund for certain excursions
      • Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary Entry Fee (Foreign Visitors)
        Required conservation and park entry fee for foreign visitors to Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary.
      Please note
        • The lodge is located inside a community-managed conservation area.
        • Breakfast is included; lunch and dinner can be arranged at the restaurant, and we’ll check in with you at booking to make sure we can cater for your needs.
        • Wildlife and birds also call Kriel Lodge their home — please respect natural habitats.
        • All rooms are insect-sealed, but you are still in nature: keep doors closed and use our recommended insect repellent
        • Please contact us in advance if you require a lodge with accessibility-equipped bathroom.

          • Passport for check-in

          Essential Gear for the Safari & Location:

          • Binoculars: Crucial for birding—the most important item!
          • Headlamp/Flashlight: Essential, we are remote and the odd power cut may occur. Its also useful for night spotting.
          • Insect Repellent: Bring your own or purchase some from our supply of Kambio Nature organic repellent.
          • Sun Protection: Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, long light clothing is also recommended. In the cool season from November to January, bring a lightweight jacket or body warmer
          • Reusable Water Bottle: We encourage sustainability; refills are available at the lodge.

          Camera: With extra batteries or a power bank for charging on the move.

          Logistical & Financial:

          • Cash (USD or Riel): There are no ATMs in the surrounding area, we do have a QR code for accepting transfers, but it is advisable to carry USD or Khmer RIel for food and drinks, and paying tips/local fees.

          Personal Medications: Any prescription or over-the-counter medications you may need.
