Based at Kriel Lodge within the Tmat Paeuy Community Protected Area, this immersive experience takes you into one of Southeast Asia's most important conservation landscapes, home to the critically endangered Giant Ibis and White-shouldered Ibis.

Accompanied by an experienced English-speaking guide from Sam Veasna Conservation Tours and knowledgeable local guides, explore the region's unique dry dipterocarp forests and seasonal wetlands in search of some of Cambodia's rarest bird species. Thanks to long-standing community-led conservation efforts, Tmat Paeuy offers one of the best opportunities in the world to observe these remarkable birds in their natural habitat.

Guests can choose between two booking options:

Package with Transportation
For guests requiring private transportation from Siem Reap, please book this experience through Sam Veasna Conservation Tours.

Without Transportation
This option is designed for guests arranging their own travel to Kriel Lodge. Please note that all local excursions during the experience are conducted using a VIP Goyun, a traditional Cambodian farm tractor adapted for comfortable travel through the Northern Plains. Private vehicle transport is not included in this package.

What's included?
    • Accommodation:
      Standard Room at Kriel Lodge with air conditioning and breakfast included (based on double occupancy for two guests).
    • Guide Services:
      An experienced English-speaking guide from Sam Veasna Conservation Tours will accompany you throughout the trip.
    • Transport During the Experience:
      All local transportation during the tour, including travel by VIP Goyun to access birding sites within Tmat Paeuy Community Protected Area.
    • Refreshments:
      Drinking water and light snacks throughout the experience.
    • Meals:
      Lunch, dinner, breakfast, and lunch on departure day.
    • Conservation & Park Fees:
      Community conservation contribution and Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary entry fees for foreign visitors are included. These fees directly support local conservation efforts that protect the Giant Ibis, White-shouldered Ibis, and their habitat.

      • Laundry Service:
        Available on request, depending on the length of your stay.
      • Tips & Gratuities:
        Not included. Please refer to our tipping policy for guidance.
      • Transport to and from Kriel Lodge:
        Transportation to Tmat Paeuy is not included in this package.

          Transportation to and from Kriel Lodge is not included. Guests must arrange their own transfer to Tmat Paeuy.

          Birding activities begin early (from 4:30 AM) to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities.
        • Activity Level:
          This tour involves light to moderate walking in natural environments, including uneven forest terrain and open landscapes.
        • Connectivity:
          Mobile signal and internet access are limited due to the remote location.
        • Weather & Conditions:
          The experience operates in a natural environment where weather and field conditions may vary and can affect daily activities.
        • Conservation Impact:
          Your visit directly supports community-led conservation efforts that protect endangered species and their habitats.
        • Single Supplement If you would like to stay in a private room separate from your group, a Single Supplement can be purchased as an optional extra during checkout. The Single Supplement includes private room accommodation and daily breakfast. Availability is limited and subject to room availability at Kriel Lodge.

          • Binoculars:
            Crucial for birding—the most important item! (A vailable to rent as an optional extra)
          • Headlamp/Flashlight:
            Essential, we are remote and the odd power cut may occur. It is also useful for night spotting owls.
          • Insect Repellent:
            Bring your own or purchase some from our supply of Kambio Nature organic repellent.
          • Sun Protection:
            Hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, long light clothing is also recommended. In the cool season from November to January, bring a lightweight jacket or body warmer
          • Reusable Water Bottle:
            We encourage sustainability; refills are available at the lodge.
          • Camera:
            With extra batteries or a power bank for charging on the move.

          Logistical & Financial:

          • Cash (USD or Riel):
            There are no ATMs in the surrounding area, we do have a QR code for accepting transfers, but it is advisable to carry USD or Khmer RIel for food and drinks, and paying tips/local fees.

          Personal Medications: Any prescription or over-the-counter medications you may need.
